Come early — before there is a problem
Bring your child by their first birthday or as soon as the first tooth appears. When the first visit involves nothing more than a ride in the chair and counting teeth, the dentist never becomes something to fear.
Watch your language
Avoid words like pain, needle, drill or hurt, even to reassure. Children hear the noun, not the reassurance. Let us introduce the vocabulary in our own child-friendly way.
Book a morning appointment
Tired children at the end of a long day cooperate far less. A mid-morning slot after a good breakfast works best.
Prevention is the point
Fissure sealants on newly erupted permanent molars and fluoride varnish twice a year prevent the majority of childhood decay. Both are quick, painless and inexpensive.
