Scaling & Polishing
Professional ultrasonic cleaning that removes hardened calculus and surface staining.
Overview
Even with excellent brushing, plaque hardens into calculus in places a toothbrush cannot reach — particularly behind the lower front teeth and around the upper molars. Calculus cannot be removed at home. Our hygiene appointment uses gentle ultrasonic scaling followed by polishing to leave the tooth surfaces smooth, so plaque takes longer to re-form.

Frequently asked questions
Does scaling loosen or damage teeth?+
No. Scaling removes the deposits that cause bone loss. Teeth may feel different simply because hardened calculus that was splinting them has been removed.
Will it hurt?+
Most patients feel only vibration and cool water. Topical or local anaesthetic is available if your gums are inflamed or roots are sensitive.
